A Nigerian, Chief Joseph Chukwulobelu, has been arrested and detained by Kenyan authorities at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.

Chief Chukwulobelu was arrested because he had on him a bangle made of ivory which is a sign to show his status as a chief in Nigeria. However, it is against Kenyan law to do so. In a statement released today June 9, the director general, National Orientation Agency (NOA) Garba Abari, said Kenyan laws does not allow ivories to be used anyhow, hence, the nation’s zero tolerance to wild life poaching. Abari revealed this while warning Nigerians to be careful of what they wear when traveling to another country. He went further to reveal that Chief Chukwulobelu might have to spend 5 years in jail if convicted under the Kenyan law. Abari said the Nigerian Mission is working assiduously to secure his release.
