Also, the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa and a member of the House of Representatives, Olajide Jimoh, both called for prayers for both President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and to ensure the country survives its current socio-economic challenges. Ambode said this call was in line with the admonition of the holy Quran, chapter 2 verse 183, which says: “Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you so that you can learn self restraint (Piety).” The Governor therefore urged Muslims in the state to take the opportunity of this holy month to promote a culture of religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence among people of diverse ethnicity. “At this critical period of rebuilding our nation and ensuring that the change we promised is delivered, the lessons of the holy month of Ramadan must permeate all of our actions and deeds in such a way that each person must act as his brother’s keeper at all times,” the governor said. He also wished all adherents of the Islamic faith a most spiritually rewarding Ramadan. On his part, Obasa called on Muslims to use the occasion to share love and ensure that peace reigns in the country through their actions and utterances. “The Ramadhan period affords us all the opportunity to move closer to God, it is thus an opportunity for us to be our brothers’ keepers, share love among ourselves irrespective of our faith and above all, pray for the continued survival of the Nigerian nation,” Obasa said in the statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Musbau Rasak. He affirmed that Nigeria was facing a lot of challenges occasioned by the misrule of the past, but added that there are signs that things will get better soon. “However, for us to achieve our dream, we must all live together in peace, share love among ourselves and support the government in its desire to improve the standard of life of our people,” he added. Speaking also, Jimoh said: “This administration is working assiduously to ensure that Nigerians reap the dividends of democracy under the present government despite the economic challenges in the country. “Our Muslim brothers and sisters should therefore, use the occasion of this Ramadan to pray fervently to Allah to reposition this country and grant President Buhari wisdom, and good health to fix our economy so that better times would return to the country. Our President needs our patience, and co-operation at this time. “We must all continue to pray for the present administration at the federal, state and local government levels. We must also work hard towards building a peaceful and prosperous country,” he said.‎ President Muhammadu Buhari also sent a solemn message to Nigerians advising traders not to increase the prices of goods and services.
