A FARMER HAS BEEN KILLED BY FULANI HERDSMEN IN DELTA STATE

 Punch reports that a farmer named Nwadei Monday Ikechukwu, was gunned down on Thursday, June 16, when he was returning home from his plantain farm. Following the killing, all Fulani herdsmen reportedly fled the area for safety in fear of reprisal attacks.The Wife of the deceased, Mrs Prescilia Nwadei (née Egugbo) who was said to be nursing a two months old baby, was still in a coma following the ugly incident. According to residents in the community, this latest incident comes as the sequel to an alleged abduction of a lawyer and one other person in the locality by Fulani herdsmen.
A community resident said:
 “A lawyer was kidnapped with another person by Fulani herdsmen and the deceased unfortunately passed through the kidnappers den and was killed, the Lawyer was driving a Jeep and after paying the ransom, he was freed.”

In a related development, religious clerics in Rivers state have raised alarm that suspected Fulani herdsmen in the state are armed with weapons and are about to launch a deadly attack. Herdsmen have been fingered in series of violent attack in some parts of the country and several clashes with farmers have been recorded. Vanguard reports that the clergymen who came from different platforms, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Directorate of Religious Freedom and Church Collaboration of Christian Lawyers Fellowship of Nigeria claimed that herdsmen had invaded several communities in the state.
