Federal government to immortalise late Stephen Keshi
The federal government has pledged to immortalise the late Stephen Keshi, a legendary footballl player and manager of the Nigeria football national team. Reacting to the sudden death of the Super Eagles ex-coach Solomon Dalong, the minister of youth and sports, issued a condolence message, where he wrote:
“I will formally inform the government of the death of this great Nigerian and I want to assure Nigerians that government will seek ways to immortalise him. It is with a heavy heart but gratitude to the almighty God that I, on behalf of the Ministry and the Federal Government of Nigeria, sympathise with the family of Coach Stephen Keshi (MON). I was really shocked by the news of his death. He was one of Nigeria’s heroes whose contributions to the development of football cannot be quantified. He was a trailblazer who dedicated his life and talents to his fatherland. I join millions of soccer followers across the world to mourn this illustrious son of Nigeria, Africa and the world.” Meanwhile, Ghana Football Association (FGA) has also paid tributes to the late Nigerian coach and footballer. Today the flags at the GFA headquarters will be flying at half-mast in a token of the Ghana football fraternity’s deepest respect for Stephen Keshi.
Dr Rafiu Oladipo, the president-general of Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), has suggested to name a stadium in the country after the late that would serve as a “befitting honour for the player who won the Nations Cup for Nigeria as a captain and as a coach.
